Meet Andy Bashforth and [Your Name], two talented artists from the animation and VFX world, who first crossed paths at university in 2011. Since then, their creative journey has led them to pursue their dream of launching their animation studio based in the UK. Now, they’re excited to introduce their very first project: Tim and Bash. Andy spent the past eight years working as a lecturer in animation and VFX at Teesside University, while [Your Name] has had the incredible opportunity to contribute to major films like Sonic 2, Space Jam 2, Disenchanted, Paddington, and the BAFTA-winning Klaus.
Tim and Bash is their passion project, driven by a shared vision of bringing a completely original story to life. It also fulfills a childhood dream of owning a pet dragon! The character of Tim Northcott, the former volunteer firefighter who stars in both the live-action series and the animated adventures, was inspired by real-life Tim. With his vast experience in firefighting, Tim brought invaluable insight into creating a character who could truly take on the heat. His involvement has made the character feel authentic and grounded. The team’s collaboration doesn’t stop there. The amazing sound work for the series is handled by the talented crew at audiocreatures.com whose ability to produce top-notch sound on tight schedules has helped bring the Tim and Bash world to life. Stay tuned as these creative minds continue to shape this exciting new chapter in animation!

For Tim and Bash, we aim to create stories that are relatable simple, and filled with surprises. Our goal is to blend fantasy elements with the modern-day world, sparking the imaginations of our audience. We start with brainstorming ideas refining them and then bringing the strongest concepts to life through storyboarding and editing.
I Daniel handle the drawing of the comics using Photoshop, while Andy and I co-direct the live-action episodes. Andy oversees the visual effects creating realistic fur lighting and special effects like fire as well as the final grading. For the animated aspects, I bring Bash’s movement and acting to life using Maya ensuring the dragon feels as dynamic as possible. The collaborative process has been exciting allowing us to blend animation live-action and VFX to create a unique and imaginative world for Tim and Bash.

One of the biggest challenges we face is the time required to produce each episode. After filming is completed it takes about 6-8 weeks to finish each 1-minute episode. There’s also the financial aspect to consider as we both left our jobs to dedicate ourselves fully to this project. For the past two years, we’ve worked tirelessly on these episodes as a business. Now, we’re excited to explore opportunities to grow Tim and Bash into a full-fledged TV series. The journey has been demanding but we’re committed to making our vision a reality and bringing our beloved characters to a wider audience.
