Sometimes, we all need to add a little extra spice to our lives and no we’re not talking about anything inappropriate. Humor can range from cute to dark and what’s fascinating is how universally appealing both ends of that spectrum can be. SpaceboyCantLOL known to many of you strikes the perfect balance between these two worlds with his witty unexpected comics. In earlier posts, Mohit Srivastava the mind behind these comics, shared his inspiration and creative process. This time, we were eager to learn more about Mohit’s favorite works in dark humor whether in comics or other forms of media. The artist shared with us that I used to lean more heavily on dark humor but over time I’ve become a bit more mindful and have embraced lighter humor as my voice in comics. Sure, my humor can still be dark at times but not as much as it used to be. That said, I still love the content from sirjoancornella (2010). It’s fascinating to hear how his tastes and style have evolved while still maintaining a love for the darker, edgier side of humor.

When asked about any criticism or backlash he has faced for the content of his comics Srivastava shared Yeah quite a few times. As a human, you can only know so much about the different cultures of the world. So, sometimes my comics might be concerning to others and I’m thankful when people speak up about it. My approach is simple I try to understand and respect other’s views then move forward with the mental note so as not to make similar mistakes again. Of course, there are also times when people are just being offensive for no reason, and for those, I don’t pay much attention. I genuinely believe that if you are kind patient and respectful even the haters can end up becoming admirers. It’s refreshing to see Srivastava handle criticism with such maturity and grace, always learning from feedback while staying true to his craft.

When we asked the artist about what makes humor such an effective medium for storytelling, the creator behind SpaceboyCantLOL shared his perspective I think making someone smile is a superpower in itself. Humor helps people forget their worries, even if just for a moment and I believe that’s not only what the 21st century needs but also a small service to the world. Humor allows you to let your guard down and opens up communication. It’s a great way to break the ice and start conversations. If you’re trying to sell something, I’d recommend using humor to warm up to your client or customer let them feel comfortable, and then bring in the business. I’ve even helped corporations integrate funny comics into their presentations and pitches, and the feedback has been fantastic. Humor makes everything easier builds connections and opens doors to new opportunities. The artist sees humor as a powerful tool not just for laughs but for connecting with others and breaking down barriers.
