I aim to depict everyday scenarios from different viewpoints blending humor with introspection. Many of my followers resonate with the themes I explore, as my comics often delve into aspects of life they find difficult to express. I’m thankful for the connection my work brings to my audience. To get to know more about the comics and the artist behind them we sat down for an interview with Surbhi Suman. First, the artist introduced herself I’m Surbhi Suman a 22-year-old from India with a deep love for literature and art. I go by the alias Sola Saki, which is inspired by Japanese culture sola represents solitude and saki means destination. This name reflects the idea that each person’s journey is solitary at its core even though there may be moments of companionship along the way. Professionally, I work as an electrical engineer at Qualcomm. But beyond the technical side of my career, I truly believe that real energy and life emerge when science and art come together and I find fulfillment in both these fields. Surbhi shared the inspiration behind starting Sola Saki Comics. Being someone deeply passionate about comic cons, I’ve always immersed myself in the colorful world of comics, mingling with talented artists, and enjoying anime and animated movies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I began sharing silly doodles with friends on notepad files and their encouragement sparked the idea to share them with a wider audience. The lockdown gave me ample time to reflect and rediscover my creative passion, which had been overshadowed during my engineering studies. As I explored the vibrant community of comic artists online, my ambition grew stronger. That’s when I decided to take the plunge and start Sola Saki Comics, introducing Yellow, a character meant to bring a little joy during tough times.
The artist went on to explain what drew her to cartooning To me, the world has always seemed like a cartoon. People feel like characters right out of the pages, and their actions often feel as though they’re guided by an unseen artist’s hand. Even inanimate objects, like my notepad, seem to silently narrate their own stories maybe it’s even reflecting on my process as I write this. I wanted to express these thoughts so I started making comics. After receiving positive feedback from friends who enjoyed my little creations, I decided to share them with a broader audience hoping they’d resonate with more people. Surbhi’s journey from doodles to comics is a testament to how personal passion a bit of encouragement and a deep love for art can lead to something much bigger.

Surbhi shared insights into her creative process and how she came up with ideas for her comics. I immerse myself in keen observation during my daily life, reflecting on how people perceive and react to various situations, often considering even the perspective of inanimate objects. For example, one of my comics explored the viewpoint of a leaf that had fallen from a tree symbolizing the poignant reality that once detached it could never return to its former state. My creative process centers around capturing these everyday observations and presenting them through my unique lens.
Surbhi also explained her routine My weekly sketching sessions revolve around this process of careful observation. I immerse myself in the emotions and struggles of those around me, including my own. Whenever I spot a unique behavior or reaction, I jot it down for future comic inspiration. Drawing at least once a day is essential to me it helps maintain my habits and keeps my creativity flowing. Surbhi’s approach shows how daily life and personal experiences fuel her comics offering a unique and thoughtful perspective on the world around her.

With a background in graphic design, we were curious how Surbhi incorporates her design skills into the comic creation process. My toolkit includes Procreate IBIS Paintand occasionally Adobe Illustrator Surbhi explained. While having these skills can help better depict ideas, you don’t necessarily need to be an expert with the software. What truly matters is understanding the basics of drawing and having a clear vision of the concept. Graphic design plays a role in guiding each character’s journey through the vibrant world of imagination. Surbhi’s blend of design expertise and creativity allows her to bring her comic ideas to life in a way that’s both visually engaging and conceptually rich.
