Before becoming a mom, Inna Sacali worked full-time as an architect. However, she always had a passion for drawing comics and cartoons. After welcoming her baby boy she decided to put her architecture career on pause and began illustrating her real-life experiences as a mother. Motherhood and art now take up the biggest part of my life she shared. It’s an entirely new experience that has given me endless inspiration for my illustrations. Thanks to maternity leave for three years here in Moldova and my occasionally sleeping baby, I finally found the time to embrace my creativity. Through her comics, Inna brings to life the joys, struggles, and humorous realities of parenting, offering a relatable and heartwarming perspective that resonates with parents everywhere.

For Inna, completing a comic takes anywhere from one to three hours. Her biggest source of inspiration? Her son fills her days with endless moments worth capturing in her art. When asked about the challenges she faces in the creative process, Inna admitted that finding the time to draw is one of her biggest struggles. Another challenge is making sure she doesn’t lose a great idea in the moment. Sometimes I hesitate about how to present my idea in the best way so that everyone understands it immediately when they see the picture she shared. Despite the challenges, the most rewarding part for Inna is seeing the finished comic and feeling satisfied with the result. And, of course, she cherishes the moments when her followers, friends, and fellow parents connect with her work and enjoy it just as much as she does.

Balancing motherhood and creativity is no easy task, so Inna often works on her comics while her son is sleeping. While maternity remains the central theme of her illustrations, she’s open to exploring other topics in the future. I am still looking for my style. I draw a sketch first then line art color it and add shadows and highlights she explained. Like any artist, Inna experiences creative blocks. There are days when she doesn’t feel like drawing at all whether it’s a lack of inspiration or simply not being in the right mood. Instead of forcing herself to create, she allows the process to be natural, patiently waiting for inspiration to strike again.
