Nick Filippou shared more about his creative journey the inspirations behind his work, and his experiences as a comic artist. Minnie is a mix of super sweet and incredibly mischievous. Sometimes, she’s both at the same time. There are moments when she’ll jump onto shelves and knock things off tables just to get to you so she can snuggle on your lap Nick said when asked about Minnie’s personality.

Nick’s comics, inspired by his cat Minnie hold a special meaning almost like a mini journal or a collection of memories from their time together. Given the personal nature of these comics, we couldn’t help but ask if he has any favorites among the ones he’s created. One of my favorite series is my illustrated poem collection like The Cat Who Caught A Ghost and ‘The Cat In The Window. It was a really fun series that took off and became a passion project of mine. I used to write short, fun poems a lot as a kid and in school, so I decided to combine that passion with the comics Nick shared.

We’re not the only ones wondering what a typical day in the life of a comic artist looks like. Nick shared that for him, it’s about finding inspiration in the little moments of daily life. I’m a husband and a father and I work full-time remotely as a tech employee Nick explained. My typical day is a mix of everyday life and I get to see how Minnie plays a role in that. Whether she’s interacting with me while I’m working with my kid the dog, or the rest of the family those interactions inspire my comics.

If you’re an aspiring comic artist Nick has some insightful advice to offer.

Create for yourself he shared. When you start creating for others or get lucky enough to get paid for your comics or art it can come with pressure and start feeling like a job. Sure, making money from your work is great but it’s important to remember that you need to still enjoy it and the creative process. Not everything you create should be for an audience or profit. Some things you make should just be for you and those are the ones that truly stay with you.
