Gryzlock brings a murky, offbeat humor to a variety of settings whether it’s gaming worlds, fantasy realms, or everyday human situations. Their comics introduce bizarre yet hilarious concepts, like a traumatized bar of soap that’s seen too much, a baby abandoned because of its influencer genes, or even a Gen Z version of Jesus. We had the chance to connect with Gryzlock to learn more about their creative journey, and it turns out their love for comics started at a young age. I used to have a pile of comic books—all hidden under my bed. I read and re-read them for years. Then, in the late ’80s, I discovered manga and was mesmerized. For me, all of this was art. Maybe not in the classical sense but art nonetheless. Growing up, Gryzlock was inspired by legendary artists like Jim Lee, Humberto Ramos, and Masamune Shirow. They spent countless hours doodling in class sometimes getting into trouble for it but that’s where they first realized their artistic potential. However, like many aspiring artists, they eventually had to focus on work, and over time, drawing faded from their daily routine.
Then came the pandemic. Stuck in quarantine, Gryzlock decided to invest in an iPad and, after a decade-long break, picked up drawing once again. I played around with it and made a comic strip for Imgur which to my surprise, went viral. So I just kept drawing them. That single moment reignited their passion, leading to the creation of the darkly humorous and absurd comics that so many fans enjoy today. Sometimes, all it takes is one step to rediscover what you truly love.

We asked Gryzlock what inspires them to create such hilariously bizarre comics and their answer was simple: take a joke and crank it up to 11. That’s my process for most of my jokes. A good indicator that my readers will enjoy it is if I’m giggling while drawing and making the strip. I laugh at my jokes. Gryzlock’s ability to push humor to its extreme while keeping it relatable is what makes their comics so unique. By exaggerating everyday situations and adding unexpected twists, they create the kind of content that surprises and entertains readers with every panel. If the artist is laughing while creating, you can bet their audience will be too.

Gryzlock believes that creativity thrives when it’s not forced, which is why they avoid strict schedules when creating their comics. Instead, they aim to release a new strip every week or so, keeping the process enjoyable rather than feeling like an obligation. Drawing comics is very time-consuming, even if they look simple. A strip usually takes me between 5 and 10 hours to complete. I don’t want to burn myself out constantly creating new content drawing has to be fun for me the artist explained. However, Gryzlock isn’t ruling out a full-time future in comics. Unless one day I can make a living out of it. Then I’ll gladly draw 8 hours a day. For now, they continue crafting their signature dark and absurd humor at their pace ensuring that every strip is created with passion rather than pressure.
