The talented artist from India brings to life a charming narrative featuring Cheroo and Chim, a couple who face the ups and downs of life and love. Unlike many comics that focus solely on the beautiful moments, Sumona’s work also highlights the relatable challenges couples often face, with the central theme being how love conquers all obstacles. We had the chance to chat with Sumona about her wholesome series, and when we asked what inspired her to start creating comics, she shared I used to post my art on a different account, but since COVID hit, I was inspired to turn my art into little stories to spread positivity and love and give myself something to do in all my spare time. Sumona’s comics not only provide a dose of positivity but also remind us of the power of love and connection.

Sumona Sikdar shared with us more about the key themes that run through her comics offering a glimpse into the heart of her work. She explained I focus on moments of love, passionate affection, and happiness in simplicity. I aim to depict little slices of life that aren’t influenced by the toxicity of modern dating culture. When we asked about the characters in her series Sumona revealed that Cheroo and Chim were inspired by real-life experiences. The design for Cheroo is inspired by me but their personalities and quirks are unique to them she said, emphasizing that these characters are deeply personal with traits that are all their own. Through this authentic moment and lovable characters, Sumona’s comics beautifully capture the essence of love and connection.

Sumona Sikdar opened up further about the couple in her comics, revealing that they represent her idealized vision of innocent, authentic love. She shared, that Cheroo’s sweetness innocence, and love for Chim don’t take away from the fact that she’s a strong, capable individual. At the same time, Chim breaks down toxic masculinity proudly expressing his feelings and emotions. Through Cheroo and Chim, Sumona’s comics present a refreshing take on relationships, where love is pure supportive, and free from societal pressures. The characters embody strong vulnerability and mutual respect making their story all the more relatable and heartwarming.

Curious about Sumona Sikdar’s creative process, we asked the artist how she came up with new ideas for her comic strips and short animations shared on Instagram. Here’s what she revealed Some ideas come from personal experiences others from imagination or fantasies, and some from simply observing genuine people in love. However, she also shared that while inspiration flows easily one challenge she faces is finding the right music or audio to accompany her work. Despite this struggle, Sumona’s creativity shines through in every comic capturing the essence of love and life with heartfelt authenticity.
