Hey there I’m Dan the creator behind the comic brand Barely Baked Beans. I’m just an ordinary guy with a love for humor irony and the strange little quirks of everyday life things I bring to life in my comics. My passion for comics started early, but one of my biggest inspirations has always been The Far Side. If you’re familiar with it, you know how much humor and creativity can be packed into a single panel. That comic taught me that you don’t have to follow conventional ideas of what’s normal or acceptable to be funny. Over time, with a lot of learning and persistence, I developed my own unique style one that blends surrealism, irony, and the unexpected. I love taking ordinary situations and flipping them on their head, leading to a twist or surprise ending that hopefully makes readers laugh. Like Gary Larson, I also enjoy using anthropomorphized characters, turning animals or objects into relatable figures that add an extra layer of humor and absurdity. If you enjoy comics that highlight life’s weirdest funniest contradictions stick around I have plenty more Barely Baked Beans to share.

Lately, I’ve taken my comics to the next level by animating them and it’s been an incredibly exciting experience. Adding movement and timing has given my work a whole new dimension, and I’ve been sharing these animated pieces on my YouTube channel. Experimenting with different ways to deliver humor has been both a challenge and a thrill. As you can imagine animation is a completely different beast from static comics. It requires new skills, tools, and a lot more time. The process can be complex and at times overwhelming, but the payoff is worth it. Being able to add depth motion and interactivity to my ideas has opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities. Plus timing and movement can enhance a joke in ways a still image can’t making the effort all the more rewarding. I’m still learning but I’m excited to keep pushing forward. If you enjoy my comics be sure to check out my animations I’d love to share this new adventure with you.

Of course, the technical learning behind the animation is one thing, consistently coming up with fresh humorous content is something else and this can be a challenge sometimes. However, I find the best ideas come from everyday situations or observations. By paying attention to the quirks and oddities around me I often find different angles on familiar topics or come up with what I think are novel takes on those things that everyone experiences in their daily lives. These days if I have an interesting or amusing thought, I’m much more inclined to write it down.

A huge part of my creative process comes from simply chatting with friends and bouncing around ideas. I’ve found that my best concepts often emerge naturally from fun lighthearted conversations with people I connect with. There’s something about the spontaneity of a good discussion that sparks inspiration in ways solo brainstorming can’t. This journey of creating comics and now animations has been incredible and I’m beyond grateful for the support I’ve received from my family friends and followers. At the end of the day, I’m just a guy who loves finding humor in life and sharing it with others. As long as I can keep doing that I’ll consider it a success.

Beyond comics and animations, I’ve also been working on several children’s picture books told in rhyme and illustrated in the same playful style as my comics. These books are educational and designed to answer the kinds of questions I used to ask as a kid in a fun and engaging way. I’ve always believed that humor is a powerful tool for young readers. It not only makes learning more enjoyable but also helps children navigate difficult emotions and situations. Even serious topics can feel more approachable when framed in a way that makes kids feel comfortable and confident in their own experiences. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing from a young reader or their parent that something I created helped them in some way even if it’s just making them smile. That’s what keeps me motivated to continue creating whether it’s comics animations or books!
