Brisbane-based author Douglas Grillet and artist Elias Martinez have found their niche in the webcomic world with Not So Wild a series that perfectly balances friendship cuteness food and fun all wrapped in a child-friendly package with just enough sarcasm to keep adults entertained. When Bored Panda had the opportunity to chat with the duo, they shared insight into their creative process and collaboration. Grillet explained I write, and Elias draws. Normally, I create a small script with scene descriptions. Elias takes the time to read and suggest changes; as an artist, he understands how to visually convey an idea better than I do. We constantly discuss how to express emotions whether a character is frustrated, annoyed, or excited, and how to showcase it effectively. With Grillet’s storytelling and Martinez’s artistic touch Not So Wild continues to charm audiences of all ages proving that heartwarming, family-friendly comics can still have a clever edge.

For Douglas Grillet and Elias Martinez, ensuring Not So Wild remains child-safe isn’t about strict rules it’s a natural part of their creative process. When asked about how they maintain this commitment Grillet explained There is nothing specific I don’t think we have ever come up with an idea and then said this is not child-safe. However, they do stay mindful of how certain elements are portrayed. Grillet recalled one instance where a character was originally playing with a toy gun. To keep the comic lighthearted and appropriate for all audiences they adjusted the design to a suction cup gun both for suitability and to avoid any potential negative feedback. This attention to detail reflects the duo’s dedication to crafting a webcomic that is both entertaining and accessible making Not So Wild a series that kids and adults alike can enjoy without worry.

For Douglas Grillet and Elias Martinez, audience feedback is always welcome but only when it aligns with their vision for Not So Wild. Reflecting on past input, they shared, In the beginning, we had some feedback about the eyes of the characters, and we changed them. But not because we were pressured to, but because we thought they were right. While they remain open to reasonable suggestions they also know where to draw the line. We don’t receive much feedback, but if we do we will listen to it if we think it’s reasonable. For example, also in the beginning we had some people suggesting that we should include politics in the comic, and we won’t do that. Their approach keeps Not So Wild true to its original charm focusing on humor heart and timeless storytelling without veering into divisive topics.
