Over time, I noticed that the ones that resonated most with my audience were the ones that told a story or had a humorous twist. But I never really ventured into larger formats like graphic novels.

We asked Diogo where he finds inspiration for his comics. Inspiration often comes from the simple moments in daily life he shared. I observe people’s interactions with nature and even my quirky habits. His creative process can vary but Diogo usually keeps his phone close to jot down funny or interesting ideas as they come to him throughout the day. Then, I go through these notes to see which ideas have the potential to become a full comic. I focus on the punchline or the main message I want to get across. After that, I begin sketching, coloring, and adding details to make sure the visuals support the mood or message. Before posting I double-check the comic to make sure it’s clear cohesive and funny.

When we asked Diogo about his Instagram handle, I am The Bird Guy he explained the meaning behind it. The name represents the idea of freedom and the ability to fly creatively without limits. Birds symbolize freedom perspective and a bit of whimsy, which are qualities I try to capture in my work.
