Heckling is the type of artist who effortlessly transforms the ordinary into something amusing with a single stroke of his pen. Drawing inspiration from Shencomix, he ventured into the world of comics blending humor and quirkiness to create his unique style. His creative process is refreshingly spontaneous often finding inspiration out of nowhere. When an idea hits, he races to capture it before it disappears. On those days when inspiration is hard to find, he lets his pen roam freely trusting that the ideas will eventually come. For Heccklin, life can be serious enough, and his goal is to bring some lightheartedness to help others escape their daily struggles. While his audience may be small he has built a loyal following with fans who come back to share a laugh and sometimes even add their humorous spin to his comics.

Heccklin’s creative process is wonderfully spontaneous often sparked by random bursts of inspiration that catch him off guard. As he puts it a lot of the time ideas just come out of nowhere. Whenever I get a new idea I try to jot it down as quickly as I can. On other occasions, he finds that simply doodling and playing around on a blank canvas is the best way to let ideas flow and develop naturally.

Although Heccklin’s audience is small it’s made up of dedicated fans who genuinely appreciate his quirky perspective. As the artist puts it, I have a very small audience. Sometimes, it feels like two ships passing in the sea. They give me a haha or lol and then I never see them again, haha. But there are a few people who always consistently check in to see my new work and their reactions are usually more interactive! They make jokes that build on mine.

Heckling is quick to name his favorite comics and the ones that have had the greatest impact on his work. The best comic ever created is BONE by Jeff Smith. It was one of the first comics I read along with Asterix and Obelix. It captures the feeling of the fantastical unknown perfectly. This deep appreciation for the fantastical and mysterious is evident in Heccklin’s creations adding a unique whimsical touch to his comics that offers a refreshing escape from the ordinary.
