After experiencing a deep personal loss in 2021 Guy Kopsombut took a much-needed mental health break to process and rediscover his joy. Reflecting on that time he shared After my dad passed, I took a mental health break to regroup myself again and discover my joy. On top of losing someone so meaningful to me, I was burned out creatively. It took until now for the fire to spark and I’m happy to say that I am more excited now than ever to help people smile.
This break not only allowed him to heal but also reignited his passion for creating content that spreads positivity and warmth. Now more inspired than ever Guy’s art has evolved and flourished and he’s taken on new creative projects, including an exciting upcoming venture. During his creative break, Guy Kopsombut landed a book deal for his first middle-grade graphic novel Badge Quest. Describing the project he shared that the bear needs to earn badges to become a hero. When it comes to the ideas behind his beloved comics, Guy shared his creative process. The ideas come from multiple sources! One way is that my readers suggest animals and themes to me and I brainstorm a comic based on their suggestions. Another way is by empathizing I try to think about what others might be feeling and what encouragement they might need to hear. Lastly, I observe my daily life as much as possible and look within myself. You never know when a comic idea might pop into your mind just by watching what’s happening around you or listening to your thoughts.

Guy’s work is deeply rooted in empathy, which he sees as the heart of his creative universe. He explained, My creative universe revolves around empathy. I aim to help people see the good in themselves and others as much as possible. While many comics might end with a cynical joke mine always finish on an upbeat note. There’s already enough negativity in the world and I don’t want to contribute to that. Despite this Guy doesn’t shy away from difficult topics rather he finds a way to acknowledge life’s tough realities while still offering a comforting positive message.
