When asked about how she manages to stay creative and productive while balancing her parenting duties Che explains My children are always my main focus and artworks around them. If they need or want me the iPad gets put down and they get my attention. To balance both parenting and productivity, I keep my day highly structured routine is key. I create a checklist of what I want to accomplish each day and use the time they’re at school or asleep to get work done. I try to make sure my goals are realistic given the limited hours I have to avoid burnout. My husband is also amazing, helping me out on weekends by giving me time to catch up on projects when needed.

For Che Crawford short four-panel comics are the perfect fit for her busy lifestyle, filled with frequent interruptions. She explains that four-panel comics are ideal for someone like me who can’t always work uninterrupted for long periods. When I try longer comics, I often struggle with being interrupted I want to dive deep into the story and it’s hard to get back into it once I’ve had to stop. With four-panel comics, I can get straight to the point and I can usually finish them in a couple of days. I already know the entire comic from the start so even with interruptions I can keep my flow going and still get the work done.

Crawford’s D&D-inspired comics have garnered plenty of love on platforms like Reddit, and she enjoys engaging with the community. She shares, that I love reading other people’s D&D stories it’s one of my favorite types of feedback. The D&D community is filled with so much passion and fun and hearing about people’s best gaming moments encourages me. It reminds me to always keep looking for those moments of passion in life where we all deserve to have fun.
However, she also reflects on the occasional critical comment like one she received recently I had someone mention last week that they felt all my comics were about the players being assholes. That hit me hard because I always thought I was just illustrating my friends having fun and goofing off with each other. It made me realize that my comics might not always come across the way I intended. Despite this Che appreciates the feedback even when it’s tough because it helps her see her work through a different lens and understand how it resonates with others.
