When asked about balancing experimentation with his signature style Daniel the artist behind Danby Draws, explained. Many factors influence the style I choose for a comic. In one I had a character twist his head 180 degrees like an owl so I decided to go for a more cartoonish, egg-headed look. In another comic about mountain lion names, I felt that a more realistic style would be a good contrast to the absurdity of the humans arguing about them. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with more vivid colors to make the comics pop. Hopefully, it’s working at least a little bit.

Reflecting on some of the unexpected reactions to his work the artist recalled one of the most surprising moments in his journey The most unexpected thing that happened was when my website got linked by a foreign magazine and suddenly, I was hit with sixty thousand visits. They discussed my comic in the article, but they didn’t want to pay to use it so I guess the link was enough for them. When you create art you really can’t predict what’s going to happen with it.

When it comes to revisiting old work the artist prefers to look ahead rather than reworking past comics. He explained, I usually focus on the future rather than spending too much time on one piece. If a comic didn’t quite work, that’s fine hopefully the next one will be better. There are a few comics I think could benefit from some tweaks and I’ve reworked them here and there. Honestly, the fact that I don’t have much time to work on comics is a bit of a relief. It allows me to move on without overthinking what I’ve already done.
