ToothyBJ shared that his comics intentionally stray from being relatable explaining that he feels this kind of humor has been done to death. Instead, he embraces absurdism as the core of his work. It’s unpredictable and it just comes out of nowhere he said. There’s no real formula for it, but I can offer one piece of advice: always take notes or you won’t remember it later. Honestly, I’m worried about how bad my memory is. If I don’t write something down, it’s gone.

The artist shared his thoughts on what makes a good comic. I think I’ve said this before A good comic should surprise you in some way take that idea and run with it. He also pointed out a common pitfall for comic artists advising them to avoid the temptation of creating another self-insert comic. Don’t be that self-centered, he emphasized.

Finally, ToothyBJ emphasized the importance of community in being a comic artist. You know that feeling when you tell a joke among friends and get the whole room laughing? Now, imagine taking that to the extreme. It’s a rush but it’s something you earn. That keeps you on your toes and I’d say that’s my main motivation constantly earning people’s laughs.
