Gemma Gene shared that her comics are largely inspired by real-life experiences. Yes, they are mostly real-life-inspired she explained. I just observe and write down every little anecdote I think could work as a comic. Occasionally, I’ll come across a comment from someone who catches my attention, and I’ll turn it into a comic as well.

Gemma Gene opened up about the challenges she faces as a comic artist, particularly when it comes to social media. Keeping up with social media is the hardest part she explained. The pace at which platforms require you to produce content, along with adapting to every new feature, is exhausting. I recently decided to stop trying to feed the algorithm. I just want to create good stories and hope they reach people who will appreciate them. Gemma added that her current focus is on improving the quality of her work. The challenge now is really about telling good stories. I started with quick comic strips, which worked great, especially in the beginning. But now, I’m interested in crafting longer more detailed stories. I’m focused on improving both my graphic skills and the storytelling she shared.

Gemma Gene shared her thoughts on the challenges of transitioning from Mochi-focused comics to family-oriented ones. Not everyone likes kids just as not everyone likes dogs so I get it she admitted. The thing is the comic is really about my life and my vision of my family. Mochi is a huge part of that but my family has evolved and so has the comic.

She acknowledged that the change led to losing followers. Losing followers is just part of the growing pains, unfortunately, Gemma explained. My family looks very different from when the comic started, and the comic reflects that evolution. For Gemma, it’s all about staying true to her personal story and embracing the changes along the way.
