We recently connected with Erik the talented creator behind the Bonus Context comic series to delve deeper into the recurring themes of his work. When asked about the core themes that shape his comics, Erik shared his approach, I usually make comics about things that are universal for humans and have animals observe and talk about them. So, I guess the most common theme is animals observing humans doing things that seem silly when looked at from the outside. Erik’s work taps into the humor and absurdity of everyday life allowing readers to reflect on human behaviors from a fresh animal perspective. With his unique blend of humor and philosophy, he invites us to see the world through a different lens.

When asked about how he generates ideas for his new comic strips the artist shared his creative process. After hundreds of comics, it’s still difficult. I have to push myself to think about it. Sometimes, I’ll Google broad concepts like freedom or love hoping to stumble upon a quote that sparks inspiration but for the most part, it’s about treating it as a task that requires effort and dedication. Despite the challenge the artist’s commitment to exploring meaningful themes with his unique perspective continues to captivate his audience. His process might not always be easy but the results are a testament to the creativity and hard work that go into each strip.
