How I Transformed My Family’s Fun Moments Into 18 Comics for My Fireflies Series

As a father of three, I started drawing Fireflies Comics as a way to tell stories for and about my children. What began as a personal project quickly grew into a labor of love, and I’m thrilled to now share Fireflies with you. The comic has been in the works for six years, focusing on the everyday adventures and lives of a family and their circle of friends. The core of the story revolves around siblings Ollie Nova and Elijah who navigate a wide range of experiences with their parents and friends forming the heart of the series. The Fireflies family resides in Eastern North America specifically around the Carolinas, which provides a rich backdrop for various storylines whether it’s the mountains, beaches, local history, or a variety of fun and mischief. Many of the comic’s ideas are inspired by my own family’s daily experiences, adding an authentic and heartwarming touch to each story.

My inspiration for creating this comic came from a desire to provide my children with clean, engaging content. Over time, I observed that much of today’s media focuses heavily on family arguments and conflict. In contrast, I wanted to portray a wholesome 90s-style family dynamic where friendships are filled with fun mischief, and adventure while still maintaining a sense of positivity and togetherness.
