Katherine Hemmings a talented comic artist has been passionate about drawing since childhood. She fondly recalls how her dad would bring her a stack of paper from work every week, giving her the space to doodle for hours on end while the TV played in the background. Growing up in a family where art was cherished, Katherine had the perfect environment to foster her creativity. My sister was studying art and both my parents were good at it! So they were happy to supply me with as much paper as they could get a hold of she shared with a smile. Her artistic journey has been shaped by this supportive environment and her comics now reflect the joy humor and creativity that have always been a part of her life.

Katherine Hemmings never imagined becoming a comic artist until one pivotal moment at a UK comic convention. There she met Sarah Graley and Marc Ellerby, who were both working on the popular Rick and Morty series. I remember being blown away that people local to me were drawing for such huge IPs Katherine says. Inspired by their success she left the convention with a newfound determination. I remember leaving that convention and saying I wanted to be a comic artist.
A year later, Katherine discovered The Comic Creative Catalyst, a course led by industry professional John McCrea. This course taught her invaluable skills like storytelling, visual techniques to guide the viewer’s eye, and working with scripts. Katherine recalls It was incredibly interesting and in the end, we all worked together to create an anthology of our work from that course. Since then Katherine has continued to create comics in her spare time balancing her passion with other commitments and cherishing every moment of it.
