We had the chance to sit down with Tyler and Ryan to learn more about their unique comic series All I See Is Beans. When asked to sum up their comic style in just three words Tyler responded with Chaotic. Stupid. Doctors. He further explained, While many webcomic artists tend to follow a specific theme, we just go with whatever feels funny at the moment. Some of our jokes are clever but most are just silly probably the kind of jokes that might make people want to punch us! As for the Doctors part, my wife is a medical doctor in residency and I’ve been with her since before she even started med school. Hearing about her experiences at school and work gives us plenty of comic material, which is why you’ll see a lot of doctor-themed jokes in our comics.

We were curious about the creative process behind the comics so we asked Tyler how he and Ryan came up with ideas for their strips. Tyler shared that I’m terrible at consistently generating new comic ideas. When I try to sit down and force it my mind usually goes blank. The best ideas tend to come when I least expect them like during a walk while sitting in the shower or even on long drives to a poker tournament. Sometimes my wife or a friend will share a funny story about something that happened to them at work and that sparks an idea for a comic.

We got the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of All I See Is Beans through Ryan, who explained how he develops characters that fit the comic’s tone. If you look closely at our comics some characters are more detailed with clothes while others are basic shapes and yes sometimes they’re naked Ryan shared. The purpose of these characters is often to set up a joke especially since we joke a lot about doctors. We purposely reuse these characters rather than constantly creating new ones. The more they appear the more we can highlight their unique personalities.
