Drawing inspiration from real-life events, the series often explores slice-of-life situations that resonate with many of us. Because the comic reflects Shiki’s personal experiences, the characters are also based on real people. We continued our conversation with Shiki, asking her about the most challenging part of being an artist today. She shared her perspective. When asked about the most rewarding part of creating and sharing her comic series Shiki shared. The best part of sharing my work is seeing how my readers connect with it. When I read comments or messages from people who say a story resonated with them or helped them through tough times, it fills me with happiness and gratitude. It makes the pain I experience while revisiting difficult moments in my life truly worth it.

Finally, we asked Shiki which comic strip she considers her personal favorite, and here’s what she shared. The Pastry Chef’ is one of my favorites. It holds a special place in my heart because it’s based on a real, cherished memory. It was also one of the first deeply personal comics I released and seeing how people connected with it inspired me to create more heartfelt stories.
