If you’ve had a tough work week, here’s some good news: It’s Friday, and the weekend is almost here. But as always, time seems to drag when you’re waiting for something. Here’s an unscientific fact: reading comics makes time fly by faster. You might know where I’m going with this—how about reading some comics? And not just any comics, but the best ones by Tony Esp, a master at making every comic strip unexpected, twisted, and dark—think Spanish Inquisition-level surprises (yes, I’m throwing in a Monty Python reference here).
Tony’s creativity doesn’t follow a strict formula. Instead, he lets his mind flow and draws inspiration from wherever he can find it. “I don’t exactly sit down in my chair and try to write something funny. Most of the jokes come to me while I’m in the shower, and on rare occasions, they’re based on my life,” Tony says. He’s quite self-aware and modest about what makes his comics unique. “I don’t have a specific art style for my comics, so it’s definitely my weird comedy that stands out.
While Tony loves his type of humor, he acknowledges it’s not for everyone. “Dark humor isn’t for everyone, but I like to believe that nothing is off-limits when it comes to comedy. Of course, I have my standards and preferences, so even I have my limits.
